Here’s one I’m really stoked on – the Monotype and MyFonts.com 2022 Fontacular campaign. This annual event involves a week-long promotion featuring substantial discounts on individual fonts and specially curated bundles from various type foundries. It’s a comprehensive effort, reaching audiences across several websites, newsletters, and social platforms. The estimated reach every year is in the millions.
I was really honored to be selected as the designer for this, undertaking a role akin to an artist residency. This involved crafting the entire creative package, including branding, banners, newsletter graphics, giveaways, type specimens, and campaign advertisements. In the past, Monotype has partnered with amazing creatives like Alana Lousie, Brad Woodward, Josh Emrich, Bethany Heck, and Brian Miller, so I was in really good company taking the reigns this time around.
Giveaways
A lucky limited group of people that entered a raffle during the campaign were awarded prize packages that included an 18x24in screen printed poster, a tshirt, and stickers – all of which I designed.
Newsletter Headers
For the campaign they needed header graphics that went out atop in every promotional newsletter email during Fontacular. A couple of these designs paid homage to some of my favorite mid century illustrators, including Miroslav Sasek and Mary Blair.
Type Specimens
The biggest task of the project was creating type specimens, which I illustrated for each sale bundle. This segment of the project was especially challenging as the specifics on each bundle were in a state of flux as various type foundries were confirmed and specific fonts were selected while I was already working on illustrations.
Thank You Banners
We also needed a few banners I created to thank customers and sponsors for being a part of this year’s Fontacular.
Custom Logotype
Part of the project entailed taking one of the typefaces included in the promotion and turning it into a logotype fitting our chosen theme.
Campaign Brand Colors
I also needed to pick a color palette that would show up throughout all of the various pieces of artwork I would be creating for the campaign.
Sales Badges
Another detail to iron out were custom sales badges for every discounted font and bundle offered during Fontacular. Collar tags seemed like the perfect choice.
