The 2022 Travel Issue

High Times

I recently had the honor of working on some editorial illustrations for
High Times Magazine’s March 2022 Travel Issue

High Times is the longest running source of cannabis journalism and has been in print since 1974. They’re sort of the Rolling Stone Magazine of weed and have interviewed countless iconic cannabis consumers such as Bob Marley, Hunter S. Thompson, Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson, Oliver Stone, Susan Sarandon, and Carlos Santana.

For this project I got to portray a few notable countries among cannabis tourists including the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, and Jamaica. For the back cover I went for sort of an aged vintage postcard vibe to go along with the travel theme. This also allowed me to juxtapose the three locations in a way that made coherent sense

I’ve been to the Netherlands – and specifically Amsterdam – multiple times and was able to use photos I had taken of the Red Light District as reference for this piece. I’m especially pleased with the warm, inviting palette I landed on here and I think the iconic Dutch church tower silhouetted in the background really ties the composition together.
